Beacon for the Bay

Courtside to the waterfront, Chase Center and its new-fashioned campus span over eleven acres, including the Thrive City gathering space, experiential retail spots, offices and labs, parking garages, and even valet bicycle parking. Since opening, thousands upon thousands of eager fans, stand-up lovers, concert goers, foodies, and wrestling diehards enter the arena to take it all in.

But that’s the thing. It’s not just an arena – it’s a destination, a mecca to eat, play, work, and celebrate as a community. This next-level arena called for players and solutions a cut above.

Center Around Community

From sports and entertainment to art and cuisine, the Chase Center set out to deliver a world-class experience at every turn, while remaining authentic to the Bay Area community. Today, its LEED Gold certified and meets the gold standard. It’s exactly what would emerge if you blended eco-conscious fixtures and luxurious features.

Clark Construction Group and Mortenson Construction led the ambitious project with full-court press. “What makes this particular project challenging is, it’s not just an arena. It’s an arena, a parking garage, there are two eleven-story office towers, and all the infrastructure that’s coming in – this is a city within a city.”

Ahead of the Curve

Every inch of the campus rounded out the vision. “There is no square corner anywhere,” added DeLong. “It’s all radiused. It’s all unique. It’s all custom.” The build team needed custom drains to outline and perform along those non-existent corners. Zurn’s trench drains offered the selection and prefabrication required.

“[Clark and Mortenson] really tried to mimic a lot of the shapes and forms you see in this elliptical arena, and they turned to the Zurn product – this great curved slot drain,” said Peter Bryan, Golden State Warriors Vice President of Construction & Development. “It’s a stainless steel product that’s going to hold up over time and provide easy maintainability. It’s important to us at the Warriors that we have products that fit the aesthetic, but also are easy to maintain.”

Solutions for Innovation

Venture partners, Clark and Mortenson, installed Zurn solutions throughout the facility from floor drains to fire protection valves. “They are easy to install,” said DeLong. “They’re pretty simple to go together, and they’re durable, so we’re not back in our customer’s world fixing stuff. From that standpoint, I’ve never had an issue with any Zurn product.”

“In some places, it starts and ends with a Zurn product,” said Bryan. Zurn is a supporting player in a first-of-its-kind creation. The architecture of the entire building captivates through experience and innovates through efficiency, accessibility, and technology, thanks to the vision and execution of the Chase Center teams.
